In today’s modern world, many children grow up closer to the screen and further from the land and the food that sustains them. The everyday skills once passed down through generations are slowly being forgotten—but we at Abiding Acres Farms believe they are still essential.
Our farm school exists to reconnect children to the land through joyful, hands-on learning—where responsibility and stewardship are learned with muddy boots, dirty hands, and lots of laughter. Through hard work and play, children gain confidence as capable contributors, a strength that carries into every area of their lives.
Woven through it all, children learn where food comes from and how to lovingly care for the blessings God has given us.
Children will participate in activities including ( but not limited to):
-
Animal care from incubation and birthing through stages of life.
-
Farm chores such as feeding and watering animals, grooming, pasture rotation, milking, etc
-
Making soap, butter, yogurt, cheese, baking sourdough, etc
-
Seed starting, gardening, companion planting, composting, tree planting
-
Planning and completing tasks by season
-
Making home-made products using what we harvest from the land.
-
Selling at the farm stand and reaping the reward for their work.
Our classes are intentionally multi-age, reflecting the way learning happens on a real farm. Research shows mixed-age learning nurtures leadership, humility, and a strong sense of belonging.
